It is overly regular for the atheist to walk around accusing Christians of being senseless in their faith of God and God’s miracles. What atheists fail to apprehend is that they doubtlessly hold their own beliefs and have their faith in miracles as well. We will review a few of these miracles and show the hypocrisy of atheists and their claim to only trust in that which they can prove through science or what they are equipped to touch or see. Additionally, when we make evident the faith that atheists hold we will also put it up against the beliefs held by Christians and see which is truly more logical.

The first and most apparent miracle that any atheist must hold to is the well-known “Big Bang Theory.” The only reason such a belief exists is because everybody recognizes that our universe is not eternal and had a definite origin. In an universe regulated by cause and effect there must have been an initial first cause. You can not have an eternal regression of effects and causes. For this reason Christians have no issue admitting that they have faith in an infinite God who has always existed who created the universe in the beginning. In other words for the theist it is God who is the “first cause.”

For the atheist they are bound to believe that in the beginning everything came forth from nothing. Everything we know currently tells us that the idea of all things coming from emptiness is without question beyond the bounds of possibility. It is as a result of this that we are presented with our first “atheistic miracle.” Atheists believe that everything came from nothing. Now all you need to do is ask yourself which of these two positions is more reasonable and probable. Does it make more sense that an infinite God created all things or that everything came from emptiness?

The next important miracle that atheists must believe in is the miracle of life springing up from non-life. Christians will say that the origin and source of life is the ageless and self-existent God. Atheists will say that living creatures came from non-living matter. This is a separate idea that we understand to be decisively impossible. In fact, the Law of Biogenesis states that life can only come from other life. Again we are presented with another miracle that the atheists believe. All you have to do is ask yourself which is more compelling: The living God creating life or the concept that life arises from non-living material.

These are just a few examples of the utter hypocrisy on display by atheists who blame Christians of being absurd and illegitimate. They are also having faith in ideas and theories which have not and can not be proved by humankind. No one existed at the beginning of the universe or when life originally. Consequently, to state that a scientific hypothesis as fact is unspeakable. Science itself requires that something must be tested, repeated and observed in order to be proven. We can neither test, repeat or observe the beginning of life or the origin of the universe. For this reason we are left with making the choice as to which theory or explanation is more reasonable.

Everybody loves to talk about how “God is good” and “God is love” without ever understanding the implications this brings for the human race. This comes from a shortage of biblical understanding about the true nature of man, being dead in sin and truly evil. Most human beings, including people who call themselves Christians, like to think of humanity as genetically good with a tiny bit of evil coming through every now and again. However, the Bible paints a far different picture. People are by birth sinful and evil, and it is for this reason that “God is good” is a daunting fact.

Genesis 6:5 reads that “The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.” Being dead in sin it means that there in fact is not any good in us whatsoever. In actuality God claims that we are only evil continuously. It is for this reason that evil men should fear God, for Proverbs 11:21 says “Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free.” It is because of this that we require the righteousness of Christ Jesus since we have no righteousness of our own.

People often say that “God is Love” and therefore he cannot hate. On the contrary, God must hate for the reason that God is love. Since if you love what is good, you should abhor what is evil. Psalm 5:5 states “The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong.” This is speaking of God hating people who do sin. We can also see by the fact that God will not let the corrupt go unpunished that he actually does hate sin and evil. Many claim that “God hates the sin but not the sinner.” Nevertheless if we look another time at Psalm 5:5 it definitely says he hates those who do badly.

It is because God hates evil and people who do evil that we require Christ Jesus. When left to ourselves, we cannot charm God nor do what is good in his sight. We cannot merit our salvation by doing good works, for Isaiah 64:6 reads “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” We have no honorable righteousness of our own, and because of that we need the righteousness of Jesus Christ in our place.

It is, for this reason, a horrible thing to walk around telling everybody that God loves them even though they continue on sinning willfully. People who think that God loves them no matter what will have no desire to come to the cross of Jesus Christ. People must be told that they have fallen short of the glory of God, and they should fear God since he will not let the evil go without punishment. Only then will they truly become aware of their own disability and need for Jesus.

A notable matter of debate among Christians around the planet today is situated on the “eternal security” of the believers. Many people hold the opinion that once a person is saved, they are forever secured in Christ, and for this reason will stay saved from that point forward. Other people say that someone can be saved for a course of time but then “fall away” because of any number of things such as certain sins or lack of faith. The Bible is quite clear in teaching that a human being who is saved by God will be kept saved by God.

The controlling reason that people are led to think that you can be saved and then lost once more is that they place all of the choice and effort in the matter of salvation in the hands of the person, instead of in the hands of God the Savior. When we understand that we do not save ourselves and that it takes a special work of God to save us, we can then understand that the God who saved us will make sure to keep us saved. As Philipians chapter 1 verse 6 says: “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Once God has started a special work in us, he will make sure to complete it.

We have to be careful, after all, to know that not every person who claims to be saved is actually saved. There are in actuality countless millions of human beings who profess to have faith in Jesus Christ and attend church each week and yet are not saved. We can look and see countless human beings who have attended church year after year, only to “fall away” in the end. Does this mean that they were saved and later not saved? Surely not. The Bible teaches in 1 John chapter 2 verse 19 that “They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us. ”

This verse could not make it any more clear that if you truly are saved that you will endure on in Christ. Those that seem to “fall away” are only making it obvious that they were never in Christ to start with. Some people exploit the doctrine of “Once saved always saved” by using it as an excuse to keep on sinning and living like the world. This makes a complete mockery of the Gospel. Those people who are saved will bring forth good fruit. The Bible tells us “You will know them by their fruit.” For that reason a person who says that they are saved and does not bear good fruit is a liar and the truth is not in them.

In John chapter 6 verse 37 Jesus says: “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.” Not only does God save us, but he tells us that he will never drive us away from Himself. Jesus also says in John chapter 10 that “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.” The Bible is absolute in its teaching that a truly saved human being is continually secure in Christ.

With the concept of eternal security in mind the question to be asking is not: “Is it true?” But rather: “Am I actually Saved?” The catch lies in whether or not a person is truly saved, or simply making misleading professions. If a human being is truly saved, it will be validated by the “fruit” that they bring forth. Those who seemed to be saved but later “fell away” were not actually saved to start with. For if they had been actually saved, they would not at any time have fallen away.

A lot of people who believe themselves Christians today have a major difficulty with the Calvinistic teaching that Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was not for every single person, but rather for a special people labeled “the elect.” This teaching is well-known as “Limited Atonement” and is one of the major doctrines of Calvinism or Reformed Theology. People discard the idea of limited atonement because they hold to the idea that Christ died for every single human being and the salvation of a specific individual is left up to the choices and abilities of that person, rather than the sovereign will of God Himself. We will examine 1 Timothy 2:4, which is one of the main scriptures used to debate against the doctrine of limited atonement.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 is a common passage used to argue for the idea that Jesus Christ died for each individual person ever to live. These verses assert: “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” When this verse is read it seems as though God does in fact will to save every single person. The one and only problem is the fact that this verse is almost always thrown out there by itself wholly out of context. Many human beings read this verse and automatically apply a meaning to the term “all men” saying that it indicates every single human being. But is this the only definition of the phrase? Should we not look at the context of the passage to decide what the phrase actually means?

The at the beginning verse of chapter 4 of 1 Timothy declares: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.” If we are to be consistent with the application that the phrase “all men” means every single human being, was the author then meaning that prayers should be made on behalf of every single human being? This would admittedly not even be a feasible task to complete. Is this verse instead saying that prayers be made for “all men” in terms of types or classes of men? Well, the very next verse makes the answer certain in one’s mind: “For kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” In other words, do not just pray for eachother or those who are similar, but also pray for those above you.

The “Kings and all who are in authority” were the very people persecuting the Christians during the writing of 1 Timothy, and for that reason the writer of this book was commanding that prayers be given even for those who mistreat them. Also, “Kings and all who are in authority” are kinds or classes of men. When we take this definition of the phrase “all men” and apply it to the verse under discussion, it is obvious that God is desiring all kinds of people to be saved, not only a specific group or class of human beings. Indeed, God also desires the salvation of some people in the area of “kings and all who are in authority,” but to say that God seeks the salvation of every single individual person goes opposite to the rest of the bible.

Some of the higher problems with teaching “Unlimited Atonement,” or that Christ died for all humans and the decision for salvation being left up to the individual, is that this places the condition of salvation on the person, rather than God. This means that there is something in men that distinguishes a saved person from a lost one, making them in some sense “better than the others.” We have to ask ourselves what distinguishes the lost from the saved. Is it that the saved are more intelligent, better, or more spiritual? Certainly not. The scriptures makes it certain in one’s mind that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and the only thing that separates those who are saved from men who are lost is one word: “Grace.”

This is only one of the abundance of verses taken out of context to try to contradict Calvinism, and it must be remembered that we need to examine the context of a specific verse to determine what a word or phrase really means and how it is being used. If we take words out of context, we can make the Bible say whatever we choose. This is a very hazardous thing to do since this is how cults are formed. We also need to check how our interpretations of particular verses or passages line up with the doctrines of the rest of the scripture to ensure that there are no contradictions.
