If you are a professional photographer or simply love doing it in your spare time, you have probably found that finding an online presence that will be beneficial to you and to your possible photography business is a tough job. You also want an outlet, such as a Photographer’s Community, where you can learn new things about your craft by reading Photography Articles. You can always turn to old standbys, such as Facebook or Twitter; however, you will find that the best type of assistance available is through a community of like-minded individuals, such as yourself. Workshops that you attend in person can be some of the best types of informational gatherings. Online, you can also attend these types of programs through communities for photographers. Sure, face to face is a great way to meet people and share experiences, but you can do so online just as well and with many more individuals. You also want to find the time to interact with other professionals in your industry. Simply scouting your project to prospective buyers is not enough. Online communities, or forums, are a great environment in which to meet these individual professionals. The following are just some of the reasons that online photographer’s communities are a good option. Many of the best communities offer online storage for your photos. Find out if there are any charges and if you will have a public profile where other interested individuals can view your product. This is one of the best ways to promote your photography business. Seek out professional forums in which there is a community critiquing program. A little bit of constructive criticism can go a long way in furthering your understanding of your craft. This can also help you improve upon the skills you already have. Another great resource is a classified section meant just for photography enthusiasts. This is a great means of selling off old gear that you no longer require or for finding others’ gear that may be of use to you. It is a good idea to purchase second hand equipment from other people that are like-minded when it comes to photography. Photography articles are one of the best ways to keep up to date on new happenings in the world of photography. You can learn new techniques or simply keep up on what other professionals in the field are doing. You can also learn from the pros how best to run a photography establishment, as well. When seeking forums that offer this type of service, find out if you must pay subscription fees or if the information is free of charge. Finally, this is a great way of generating new ideas for your photography business, such as techniques, landscapes, and other places for taking new photos. The main thing is that in this business you must stand out from the crowd when it comes to your particular methods and photo skills. By taking part in a forum, you will be able to get up close and personal with the people that make a difference and can get your foot in the door should you be up and coming, but great at what you do.

Finding a Photographer’s Community is a great way to find Photography Articles.

These days its difficult to determine what is considered a great photograph. Its easy to conclude that if you have the most expensive equipment. You should then be able to create the best photograph. Thats not the case even with todays technology. Technology has made it easier to take quality pictures at an affordable amount. Youll find that anyone can take a photograph, but making it a great photography takes skill. Having artistic ability and training are more important than having great equipment. You can overcome any limitations your equipment may have with artistic ability to create a great photograph. Creativity and knowing how to capture unique images is what will set your work apart from others. A great photograph is visually appealing to your client. It has the ability to hold your attention and generate deep thought. There are a few basic elements that make a great photograph. Focusing on these areas will allow you to stand above and beyond your competition. Remember your camera cant compose your image for you.

The single most important aspect of a great photograph is getting proper composition. How you place your subject and surrounding objects sets the tone of your picture. If you dont have the right composition then you wont be able to create a great photograph. Its the make or break element in creating a great photograph. You can take a picture thats not the most exciting to look at. Change the composition around to turn it into a picture that your reader cant take their eyes off of. Take your subject and take shots from different angles and heights. Creating different perspectives will allow you to get that great shot you desire. The shot has to be eye-catching and hold the viewers attention to be a great one though. The attention to detail is what needs to stand out the most. If the shot has no detail or lacks the proper composition then your view will turn away and move on without taking notice.

Your use of lighting is also a very important and plays a major role in creating a great photograph. If you have no light to take a shot then there wont be a photograph. So, making sure you have proper lighting is most important. You then need to take that lighting and use it properly. Creating a silhouetted photo doesnt take as much light as a photo newborn photo session. Your lighting in these two instances are totally different. However, the lighting in both can be used to create a unique and detailed photograph. If your light is low and you dont have proper exposure your photography is going to turn out dark. You should consider light direction and the quality of the light as well as the color.

Our eyes are drawn more toward warmer colors such as orange and red. Cool colors such as greens and blues will draw the eyes of the viewer away. You can create a photo that has a 3D effect by using a Red object as your primary focus with a blue background. This is a great way to make your photo really stand apart. You have to remember that cool colors are soothing and peaceful. So, dont try to create shot that you want to portray lots of action. Vibrant colors and warm colors are what you want to use to get this effect. You want to make sure you get your colors right in post processing. You dont want green grass to look blue just to get a calming effect in your shot. Keep your colors true and dont try to totally change the objects original color.

A great photography can also be one that helps tell a story. If you are taking a portrait shot with people as your focus. You can allow your viewers a chance to be part of their story by proper placement within the shot. You can use post processing software to help illustrate an emotion by changing the eyebrows or creating a smile. This is an excellent way to create facial and hand gestures. Have a loving couple holding hands and staring into each others eyes is going to tell a story of love and show emotion. A couple waving their hands and giving the appearance of disagreement and discontent is going to look as though they are having an argument. These are the ways you can use your photo to tell a detailed story and make it a great photograph.

Trying to recreate what another photographer has already created never works. A great photographer should create their own masterpiece without using other photographers ideas. A photographer who looks at ones work and tries to duplicate it down to color and backdrop is cheating their client. Going out and creating a photo based a gut feeling and not having a set idea in mind beforehand will help set your apart from your competition as well. Make sure you are open-minded while trying to figure out what backdrops and unique objects you want to incorporate into your shot. Looking for a specific place on a beach or searching for the exact location another photographer used. Shows a lack of creativity and over time your portfolio will reflect it. Your clients will ask why all of your shots look the same and why you only use this field or that lighthouse as a backdrop.

Once in while I receive e-mails or phone calls from aspiring or beginner wedding photographers asking me for advise on how to become successful in the wedding field. My first question is always what their motivation is to become a wedding photographer. Some will reply that they heard from somebody that it is easy money, or that they got a cool camera that takes great photos or that they would like to make some money on the side etc.
While it is true that wedding photography can be a very profitable business achieving success in the wedding industry is not just a matter of getting a camera and start shooting. Wedding photography involves artistic talent, human sense, complete mastery of photographic techniques, business knowledge, and a strong desire to learn and deliver the best to the wedding couple.

Here I have summarized some points that I believe will guide beginner wedding photographers:

1.	Learn photography before anything else. A wedding photographer is expected to be a master of the craft. You will be in charge of capturing people’s most precious life moments. The wedding day is not the place to learn photography.

2.	Just because you got a brand new camera it does not automatically make you an effective and reliable photographer. Photography goes beyond cool toys and gadgets. Learn composition and develop a unique artistic vision. Some of the great photographs of all time were taken with manual cameras.

3.	Master the digital workflow, including color management, digital image processing, file management and image correction and enhancement.

4.	Learn to love photography more than anything else. Don’t come to the wedding photography field with just dreams of making money. It is true that there are many successful wedding photographers that make a lot of money. However according to the Professional Photographers of America the average photographer in America makes about $24,000 a year.

5.	Focus on delivering quality more than quantity. Seek with all your heart to capture unique photographs.

6.	Develop a style that is recognizable and unique. Don’t try to be like somebody else. Clients look for unique photographers, with a unique vision.

7.	Give wedding photography all your heart and effort. Long when you are gone your photographs will last forever. It is a great way to be remembered.

8.	Open your heart and your mind and great photos will happen. Concentrate on the human aspect of weddings, the details, and emotions and be ready to capture them. Let the camera become an extension of you.

9.	Share your technical knowledge and make connections with other wedding photographers.

10.	Participate in wedding photography image competitions. It will give you the opportunity to have your work evaluated by peers and the motivation to improve your work quality.

11.	Learn something new everyday. Take advantage of professional photography organizations such as Professional Photographers of America (PPA), WPPI, etc. Attend their seminars, workshops. Participate in Internet wedding photography forums and learn and share tips, tools and techniques.

12.	Don’t neglect the business aspect of wedding photography. Learn to manage your business effectively. Take business courses and seminars.

So, you want to create a video, but you have no clue how to get started. You’ve got a few computer skills and you’re confident you can pull it off. You think “how hard can it be?” Well, it can be tough because learning any new skill takes some time, usually because we make so many mistakes when learning something new. I will try to minimize your mistake making with this video editing article.

The Script

The first thing you need to know about video editing is that it takes quite a bit time and can be quite laborious. The more organized you are before you even shoot the video for your project, the easier it will be to edit and save you a bunch of time (or money). You always want to shoot your footage with the edit in mind. This isn’t an easy thing to do if you are a beginner because it’s difficult to see the finished video in your minds eye since most of us don’t have any experience or practice seeing a finished product before you even start the process of creating it. We have to build a mental picture of what our video will look like.

The best way to create that mental picture is to create a script. I refer to a script over and over before I shoot a single frame of video and I’ve been doing this work for almost 15 years. I always have the script at the shoot no matter what kind of video it is…Commercial, info video, documentary, corporate video or a talking head video that some footage (B-roll) will be placed over the top of.

I like to start with a sheet of paper with 3 columns on it. In the first column I write what the shot will look like and match it with the 3rd column where the actual script resides. What goes in the 2nd column? I use the second column for graphics that are superimposed over the video if necessary.

Click here (sedonavideos.com/wp-content/uploads/Sample-Script.doc) for a blank Microsoft Word file I use as a template.

Once you have your script written do not part with it. Use it before the shoot to get familiar with what you will be shooting, to figure out what lighting you may need, or any kind of extra equipment like microphones and tripods that will be used during the shoot. Like I said before, I refer to a script many times during the shoot and during the video editing process.

The Shoot

When setting up the shots for your video the script is indispensable. It can tell you where to set up, what to shoot and whether or not the timing of a shot fits with a narration. Again, shoot for the edit. I overshoot everything so I have some choices during the editing process. Shooting some extra footage from different points of view with the camera is always good practice and can spice up an edit quite a bit.

Video Editing

Now comes the fun! Once you’ve shot and captured all the video and have it in a computer you are ready to edit. Most video editing programs are quite similar these days so I’m not going to be too specific about any particular program. Most editing programs have a timeline where you lay all your clips into in the order you have mapped out in your script. Basically you line up your clips over a narration track, whether it be from a narrator or a talking head.

You then roughly put your clips where they need to go and move on down the timeline until you have followed your script and have all the shots you need inserted. At this point just use simple cuts because you want to make sure everything fits as your script dictates the timing of the shots.

Next you can add (or not add) the transitions between your clips. This can really add to the look and feel of the piece you are creating. Some transitions can smooth out some rough spots that a cut can create. Try a dissolve or a wipe in between your shots, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Try making the transitions shorter or longer, it can make a huge difference on how the piece feels.

Most videos don’t need flashy transitions so don’t make the whole piece about the transitions between shots. That stuff can be pretty distracting and might take away from your message, then again it might make it more exciting and give the piece some energy. This is what editing is all about – finding out what serves the piece you are creating to make it more engaging, beautiful and/or to fit into a certain time frame. After the cuts and transitions have been added you can move on to the graphics which can be applied to the timeline before, after and during your video.

One thing I hope I’ve made clear is that video editing starts before you even pick up a camera or sit down at the computer to edit your video. Always being able to see what your finished product will look like will make your video much better in the long run.
